
President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Iran to attend the G-15 Summit. The President was received by Mahadi Ghazanfam, Minister of Commerce of the Iranian Government upon arrival.
The President took over the Chairmanship of G-15 from Dr Mohmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran, for a two year term.
The Summit focused on cooperation among developing countries in the area of investment, trade and technology. The Group of 15 accounts for one third of the global population and consists of some of the biggest and powerful economies of the world.
The Sri Lankan delegation to the G-15 Summit included Prof G L Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the President, Romesh Jayasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, Sajin Vaas Gunawardena, MP and Harry Jayawardena, Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation (CPC).
