President Rajapaksa hands over gold jewellery to a resident from the North of Sri Lanka in the presence of Daya Rathnayake, Commander of the Army at a special function
President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned a stock of gold once in the possession of the LTTE to the rightful owners at a function held at the Temple Trees. The latest group of 1,960 identified owners from Mannar, Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya had their gold jewellery either confiscated by the LTTE or pawned to them by the owners during the LTTE's control of the North. President handed over 2,184 parcels of gold to their rightful owners. The Army had seized the gold that had been in the possession of the LTTE during its humanitarian operation in the final stages of the war in the North of Sri Lanka.
